PBA Hall of Famer Amleto Monacelli ran the stepladder finals from the No. 5 seed position to win the 2019 USBC Senior Masters on Sunday.

Monacelli, who also won the Senior Masters in 2015, defeated top seed Stoney Baker in consecutive matches, 255-243 and 237-200, to claim the $20,000 first-place prize at Sam’s Town in Las Vegas.

As the top seed, Baker needed to be defeated twice, and Monacelli was up to the task. In the deciding game, Baker missed a chance to put maximum pressure on Monacelli in the final frame.

Working on three in a row, had Baker struck out in the 10th frame, Monacelli would have needed a strike to win. Instead, Baker left a two pin on his first shot to make things easier for Monacelli.

Needing just eight pins to secure the victory, Monacelli tossed a perfect strike on his first attempt to claim his ninth career PBA50 Tour title.

In the semifinal, second seed Norm Duke and Monacelli were neck-and-neck most of the way but Monacelli emerged with a 239-222 victory. Finishing the match first, Monacelli delivered a double in the final frame to shutout Duke and advance to the championship match.

Third seed Gary Faulkner got off to a strong start with four strikes in a row but it wasn’t enough to keep pace with Monacelli in the second match of the stepladder. Monacelli started with six consecutive strikes before missing a single pin en route to a 245-223 victory.

Monacelli opened his stepladder run with an easy 258-188 victory over fourth seed Tom Adcock. Monacelli started with a spare before rattling off six strikes in a row to cruise to the victory. Adcock fell behind by 25 pins after three frames and would never recover.

The PBA50 Tour will head across town for the start of the PBA Suncoast Senior U.S. Open on Monday in Las Vegas. All rounds of the event will be broadcast exclusively on FloBowling.
