PBA Tour Returns This Weekend In Lubbock
For the first time in two months, a PBA Tour title will be on the line this weekend as the tour heads to Lubbock, Texas, for the second time this season.
For the first time in two months, a PBA Tour title will be on the line this weekend as the tour heads to Lubbock, Texas, for the second time this season.
With the exception of the non-title PBA Playoffs, the tour has been quiet since April 28 when Jason Belmonte won the DHC PBA Japan Invitational.
That changes this weekend as the PBA Tour begins the summer season with the 2019 PBA Lubbock Sports Shootout, which will be broadcast live on FloBowling.
Here are a few key points to get you ready for this weekend’s event:
Lucrative summer for PBA bowlers
The PBA’s summer schedule is tightly packed but there’s a lot on the line for players, including seven PBA Tour titles from now until the end of August.
The Lubbock event kicks off qualifying for the FloBowling ATX Invite, the USBC Cup, qualifying for the PBA China Tiger Cup and points toward eligibility for the 2020 DHC PBA Japan Invitational.
The top eight players on the summer tour points list will get invitations to the inaugural FloBowling ATX Invite, serving as a culminating event for the summer season. The winner of that event will earn $25,000.
The USBC Cup will pay out a total of $40,000 in bonuses to the top five performing players over the summer, with the top player getting $20,000.
Eight players will qualify for the PBA China Tiger Cup based on performance during the summer season and will earn expenses-paid trips to Suzhou, China, to compete for a first-place prize of $20,000.
Lubbock provided early-season excitement in January
Earlier this season, Lubbock was the site of one of the most bizarre finishes in PBA Tour history when Dick Allen won the PBA Lubbock Sports Open over Sean Rash.
Both players will return to Lubbock this week and look for a rematch of their championship match that occurred back in January.
In that final match, Allen defeated Rash 201-200 in dramatic fashion. Rash missed a 10 pin to close out the championship match to give Allen a chance.
Needing a double and eight pins to win, Allen tossed the ball very far right and got a lucky strike. He then tossed a perfect strike but on the fill ball went high and nearly left the 3-6-10 but the 10 fell late to win.

Who’s in and who’s out this weekend
While there are plenty of big names on the roster this weekend, including Jason Belmonte, Jakob Butturff, EJ Tackett and Dom Barrett, there are some notable names missing.
In all, 13 of the Top 20 in the FloBowling PBA Power Rankings are currently scheduled to compete.
Among those not currently on the roster are PBA Playoffs winner Kris Prather, Kyle Sherman, Anthony Simonsen, Rhino Page, Norm Duke, Andres Gomez and Jesper Svensson.
All of the players who are skipping this weekend have their various reasons, and they range from competing in other events (Simonsen is heading to the Singapore International Open as defending champion) to going on vacation (Prather will be fishing in Canada).
The format and lane condition
