HOUSTON – In a special match to help kickstart the 2019 PBA/PWBA Striking Against Breast Cancer Mixed Doubles, the Beauties took down the Beasts on Thursday afternoon.
The five-game Baker match featured the best women and best men from last year’s qualifying facing off for a $5,000 prize with the Beauties coming away with a 988-969 victory at Copperfield Bowl.
Diandra Asbaty, Shannon Pluhowsky, Missy Parkin, Verity Crawley and Erin McCarthy took a 90-pin lead after the first four games and coasted to the victory in the final game.
The Beasts, made up of Tommy Jones, Darren Tang, Brad Miller, AJ Johnson and EJ Tackett, tried to make a comeback in the final game but the deficit proved to be too much.
The Beauties tossed their worst game in the finale, finishing with 145, but the Beasts could only manage 216 and lost by 19 pins in the total pinfall event.
The PBA and PWBA’s biggest stars have gathered in Houston this week to support the Striking Against Breast Cancer Mixed Doubles, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The organization has raised more than $1 million to fund the fight against breast cancer.
Qualifying in the main event gets underway Friday at 8 a.m. Central with the first of four squads. Two squads will qualify Friday while the second two will qualify Saturday. The top 40 teams after qualifying will advance to Sunday, the final day of the event.
All rounds of the competition are being broadcast live exclusively on FloBowling.
