“I want to bowl more but haven’t had time because of my work commitments,” the 53-year-old Jaros said in a PBA release. “I’m fortunate that I’m able to make the most of the tournaments I do bowl for the most part and getting off to a good start is always encouraging.
“Today was one of those rounds where I could play the same part of the lane, keep the ball in play and didn’t have to make any drastic changes,” Jaros added. “The transition caught me off guard in the 204 game, but I was able to grind it out and didn’t have any opens.”
Mark Williams sits in second place with 1,884, while Keith Lesko is third at 1,881. Joel Carlson is fourth with 1,875, and Harry Sullins rounds out the top five with 1,873.
Walter Ray Williams Jr., who has already locked up the 2019 PBA50 Player of the Year award, was in 15th place after the opening round with 1,804.
The 110 players in the field will return for eight final games of qualifying Thursday before the field is narrowed for Friday’s final day of competition. All rounds of the event are being broadcast live on FloBowling.
