BJ Moore has been knocking on the door for years trying to win his first career PBA Tour title. On Wednesday, he kicked the door in.

Moore, who has competed on the tour part-time since 2013, defeated Sean Rash, 243-215, to win the 2019 PBA Wilmington Open and secure his first title.

Dialed in for most of the match, Moore easily blew past Rash down the stretch at Ten Pin Alley Family Fun Center in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Moore, 30, threw critical strikes in the seventh, eighth and ninth frames, the last of which had a devastating messenger take out the 10 pin, to build a 39-pin lead heading into the final frame.

Rash, meanwhile, was burned by a pocket 7-10 split in the fourth frame and then left 10 pins on consecutive shots on that same lane to keep him from gathering any momentum in the match.

Moore came close to winning his first title earlier this season when he lost in the championship match of the PBA Scorpion Championship to Kris Prather, 200-190. He made the show at the 2018 PBA Tournament of Champions before finishing fifth and had a second-place finish at the 2016 PBA Scorpion Championship.

In the semifinal, Moore built momentum toward the end of the game to defeat Marshall Kent, 214-181. Moore, leading by three pins after six frames, blasted strikes in the seventh, eighth and ninth frames to pull away.

Kent started the opening match of the stepladder perfect as he blew out 2018 PBA Player of the Year Andrew Anderson, 274-179. Kent began the match with the front nine before leaving the 3-6 combination on a high hit to end his bid at perfection.

The PBA Tour heads to Middletown, Delaware, for the PBA Gene Carter’s Pro Shop Classic, which begins live on FloBowling on Saturday.
