In a sign of things to come on the PBA Tour, Tommy Jones, who is sponsored by Ebonite, won the final Bowlero Elite Series of 2019 using Brunswick equipment.
Jones defeated Bowlero league bowler Garrett Shovan, 266-200, to win the $100,000 first-place prize in the show that aired Sunday on NBC and was taped last weekend in Jupiter, Florida.
Despite being sponsored by Ebonite, Jones is able to throw Brunswick equipment after Brunswick acquired Ebonite International last month. In the championship match, Jones threw the Brunswick Melee Jab SE and in the semifinal he threw the Brunswick Hero.
Jones was unstoppable on the show, averaging 272.5 for his two games on his way to the massive payday. His $100,000 win was nearly double his $54,418 in earnings for the entire PBA Tour season.
In the semifinals, Jones easily defeated 2019 PBA Player of the Year Jason Belmonte, 279-216, and then rolled to the victory in the final. In the semifinal battle between Bowlero league bowlers, Shovan took down Luis Gonzalez, 236-202.
Since Brunswick’s acquisition of EBI, plenty of videos have appeared on social media of players sponsored by Ebonite, Columbia 300, Track and Hammer throwing Brunswick equipment. On Sunday, Jones was the first to do so on television.
Earlier this month, Brunswick announced it had reached a three-year multimillion-dollar deal with the PBA Tour to product register all seven of its ball brands.
