CENTREVILLE, Va. – Two of the four expansion teams in the PBA League this season will compete in the final four Tuesday night and are one step closer to hoisting the Elias Cup.
The Las Vegas High Rollers and Brew City Ballers, who along with two all-female PWBA teams entered the league this season, moved on in the divisional semifinals Monday night at Bowlero Centreville. The Dallas Strikers and defending champions Portland Lumberjacks also advanced.
In the lone rolloff of the night, Brew City’s Sean Rash came up big once again, delivering a clutch strike to send his team into the Anthony Division finals against Portland.
Brew City took the 2-1 victory in the match against the Motown Muscle despite losing the first game 269-230. The Ballers rebounded to win the second game, 235-227, and for the second night in a row, Rash got the job done in the rolloff after EJ Tackett left a four pin for Motown.
In the other Anthony Division semifinal, Portland took down the L.A. X, 2-0, with little drama. The Lumberjacks won the match 227-174 and 206-193 with anchor Wes Malott smashing a perfect strike in the final frame to secure the win.
For the other expansion team still alive, the night was an easy one as Las Vegas swept the Philadelphia Hitmen, 2-0, and will take on Dallas in the Carter Division finals.
Las Vegas won the first game 218-190 and then blew past Philadelphia, 248-182, to coast into the next round.
Dallas, meanwhile, eliminated another expansion team, the Phoenix Fury, 2-0. The Strikers put up a pair of big games to sweep the match 267-188 and 258-239.
The divisional finals will take place Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Eastern live on FS1 (United States) and FloBowling (international). The winners of those matches will then bowl Wednesday at 7 p.m. for the Elias Cup.
