CENTREVILLE, Va. – The defending champions will take on an expansion team for the Elias Cup on Wednesday night.
The Portland Lumberjacks, who won the PBA League last season, advanced to bowl for the championship for a second consecutive season after sweeping the Brew City Ballers, 2-0, at Bowlero Centreville.
Meanwhile, the Las Vegas High Rollers knocked off the Dallas Strikers, 2-1, to reach the championship match in their first season.
Although Portland swept Brew City to win the Anthony Division, it could have easily gone the other way.
The Lumberjacks won the first game by just one pin, 247-246, after Ballers anchor Sean Rash rang a 10 pin on his second shot in the final frame that would have given his team the victory.
In the second game, Portland won 233-192 after anchor Wes Malott, needing a mark, delivered a strike in the final frame to send his team to the championship match.
Las Vegas survived a tight match with Dallas to win the Carter Division and advance. After winning the first game 224-196, Las Vegas dropped the second game 225-217. That sent the match into a one-ball sudden-death rolloff.
In the rolloff, Dallas’ Bill O’Neill and Las Vegas’ Francois Lavoie both struck, forcing a second round. Nick Pate was selected to go next for Dallas and left a 7 pin, allowing Anderson to win the match with a strike for Las Vegas.
The Elias Cup finals will take place Wednesday at 7 p.m. Eastern live on FS1 (United States) and FloBowling (international).
