Smallwood, a three-time PBA Tour champion, averaged a blistering 262.75 per game in taking the lead with a 12-game total of 3,153 at Bowlero Jupiter.
In the opening round, Smallwood put together games of 245, 277, 279, 238, 236 and 268 for 1,563. In the evening block, he was even better, shooting games of 280, 258, 266, 258, 259 and 269 for 1,590.
Smallwood’s big total puts him 211 pins ahead of the field with Jason Belmonte sitting in second place with 2,942, a 245.17 average.
Just a couple days removed from winning his first major title at the 2021 PBA Players Championship, Kyle Troup sits in third place with 2,916, a 243 average, after starting each block today with a 300 game.
Anthony Simonsen made a huge move up the leaderboard on Tuesday night after sitting in 25th place after the first round. Simonsen, who had 1,366 in Round 1, came back with 1,548 in the evening session to move into fourth place with 2,914.
Andrew Anderson, who had a 300 in the opening round, sits in fifth place with 2,890.
Qualifying continues Wednesday at 11 a.m. Eastern live on FloBowling with the third round. The final round of qualifying will take place at 5 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday after which the top 24 players will advance into match play.
