Tackett has a 40-game total of 9,000, a 225 average, as he led a field of 16 advancing players into match play at AMF University Lanes in Tampa, Florida.
The 16 players will return at Noon Eastern on Thursday for the first of two eight-game blocks of round robin match play.
The final round at 6 p.m. Eastern on Thursday will determine the top five players for Saturday’s stepladder finals. Both rounds will be broadcast live exclusively on FloBowling.
Tom Daugherty is just 45 pins off the lead in second place with 8,955, a 223.88 average, while the lone lefty remaining in the field Jakob Butturff is third with 8,806. Kris Prather is fourth with 8,650, and Bill O’Neill is fifth with 8,573.
Also advancing into match play were AJ Johnson, Tommy Jones, Chris Via, Walter Ray Williams Jr., BJ Moore, Dom Barrett, Dick Allen, Kyle Troup, Shawn Maldonado, Zach Weidman and Kyle Sherman.
