Kris Prather, Andrew Anderson Ride Momentum To PBA Doubles Title
Kris Prather and Andrew Anderson took advantage of an unforced error and rode momentum to the title at the PBA Doubles Championship.
TAMPA, Fla. – The most important shot of the day for Kris Prather and Andrew Anderson was one neither of them threw.
Instead, it was an unforced error by Kyle Troup in the second match of the show that spurred the duo to the title Sunday at the 2021 Mark Roth-Marshall Holman PBA Doubles Championship.
Prather and Anderson went on to defeat top seeds Tom Daugherty and BJ Moore, 245-203, at AMF University Lanes to claim their first doubles title together. For Prather, it’s his fourth PBA Tour title, while Anderson won his third title but first since 2018.
Had it not been for Troup leaving and missing the 2-4-5 combination in the ninth frame of their match, Anderson and Prather may not have even had a shot.
Troup and his partner Jesper Svensson led by 32 pins going into the ninth frame when Troup made the unthinkable mistake. Svensson then had a chance to double for the win and instead left a 10 pin on his first shot.
Anderson was able to complete a stunning comeback with a clutch double and a four pin on the fill to win by one.
That put momentum on the side of the Anderson and Prather as they won the next two matches relatively easily to take home the title. In the semifinal, they defeated EJ Tackett and Marshall Kent, 235-214.
The show started with a big 278-226 win by Troup and Svensson over Matt Ogle and Sean Rash.
The only blemish on the scoreboard for the winning side was a light 2-8 combination left in the third frame by Troup. Otherwise, it was all strikes and Ogle and Rash couldn’t keep up.
