Just a few days removed from his emotional victory in Indianapolis, Norm Duke surged into the lead at the 2019 PBA Jonesboro Open to close out qualifying Thursday.
Duke, 54, who won his 39th career PBA Tour title at the PBA Indianapolis Open on Sunday, finished qualifying with a 14-game total of 3,138, a 224.14 average to top the field of 83 bowlers at Hijinx Family Entertainment in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Duke blasted into the lead thanks to his final two games of 235 and 266 in the second round of qualifying. He started the block with 235, 232, 192, 201 and 214.

The top 16 players after 14 games of qualifying advanced to Friday’s two blocks of round-robin match play starting at 10 a.m. Eastern live on FloBowling. The top five players after 30 total games will bowl for the title in the stepladder finals Sunday.
First-round leader Kris Prather, who bowled on the early squad Thursday, heads into match play in second place with 3,126, just 12 pins off the lead. After shooting 1,610 in the first round, Prather’s score dropped by nearly 100 pins in the second round, shooting 1,516.
Left-hander Jakob Butturff sits in third place with 3,124, two-hander Shawn Maldonado is fourth with 3,083 and EJ Tackett is fifth with 3,054.
Anthony Lavery-Spahr earned the final spot in match play by taking 16th place with 2,964, a 211.71 average. AJ Johnson was first out of the cut with 2,963, shooting 255 in his final game to just miss the cut by one pin.
For the second straight week, the field is facing mixed lane conditions with the 48-foot Shark pattern on the left lane and the 36-foot Viper pattern on the right lane.
