After winning his first two PBA Tour titles within the span of just a few months, it took nearly 15 months for Anthony Simonsen to reach the winner’s circle again.
Simonsen won the USBC Masters in February 2016 and in May 2017 as a 20-year-old, he picked up his third career PBA Tour title when he won the PBA Xtra Frame Wilmington Open in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Simonsen defeated left-hander Rhino Page, 224-177, in the title match after taking down EJ Tackett, 258-223, in the semifinal.
The victory in Wilmington ended a string of six consecutive championship round appearances without a title for Simonsen.
“I figured out the difference between the two lanes, and that was my advantage,” Simonsen told the PBA after his win. “When it’s your day, it’s your day. I’ve been getting frustrated making TV shows and not winning, but you have to keep opening the door.”
