Anthony Simonsen took his two-handed delivery to the next level in winning his fourth career PBA Tour title at the 2018 PBA Xtra Frame Gene Carter’s Pro Shop Classic.
Simonsen, who normally hooks the ball from the right side, resorted to a backup ball to defeat left-hander Matt Sanders at the event in Middletown, Delaware.
When the right side of the lane started playing more difficult, Simonsen didn’t hesitate to make the change and went on to beat Sanders, 216-194, for the title.
Simonsen made the dramatic decision after watching Sanders blast past two right-handers in the first two matches of the show with games of 256 and 237.
“To be honest with you, I’m a bit speechless,” Simonsen told the PBA after the win. “These guys are the best bowlers in the world, and to beat them, sometimes you’ve got to be creative. I didn’t have any (kind of consistent shot) on the right, so I had to try something different.”
